The Peace Desk is legally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission on 13th Day of August 2009.

Prior to the establishment of the TEAKN Peace Desk, a TEKAN Peace Committee (TPC) was instituted at the 2001 TEKAN General Assembly with the mandate to address conflicts within and between TEKAN member churches. This was done through a series of workshops organized for the leadership of member churches. With the collaboration of the Mennonites Central Committee (MCC), participants requested for the establishment of an office that will build the capacity of its members to handle conflict using nonviolent methods or Alternative Dispute Resolution.

TEKAN Peace Desk envisions that member of the TEKAN churches become proactive advocates of Peace which enhances sustainable growth and development of the church and society at large. The mission is that congregants of TEKAN member churches become proactive advocates of peace which enhances sustainable growth and development of the church and society at large. The mission is being achieved through the outline activities of program in the following areas: capacity building of congregants in member churches and seminarians in Theological institutions owned by these denominations in conflict transformation and peace building; interfaith dialogue between Christians and members of other religious bodies. The governance structure of TPD comprises of a General Assembly, Advisory committee and members of staff.

The main goal of the desk is to equip and strengthen the capacity of TEKAN member churches to understand and manage conflicts at three levels: internal conflicts in member churches; conflict between member churches; and conflict with other religious bodies, particularly Muslim neighbours. In this way TEKAN member churches become proactive advocates for peace building in church and society.

Women and youth have been very active players since the inception of the peace project. At least over 500 TEKAN women fellowship members have participated in awareness workshops in member churches facilitated by TPD.

They in turn play an active role in leadership, decision making and other activities in the church. The ultimate target groups are the grassroots members who are often at the receiving end of any conflict.TEKAN Peace Desk envisions that member of the TEKAN churches become proactive advocates of Peace which enhances sustainable growth and development of the church and society at large.
