TPD takes a peep into KIA
...Promoting Peaceful Coexistence in Central Nigeria....
Promoting peaceful coexistence in central Nigeria is capsulated as the KIA project title implemented by TEKAN Peace Desk. The project is aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence in conflict prone communities, strengthening capacities of security structure in peacebuilding, Early Warning with a rapid response mechanism.
Hence TPD with support from Kirk in Actie have designed a five -components objectives to be achieved, and there are:
- Peacebuilding: activities to be implemented under this component will be conflict Monitoring and Transformation, Advocacy, Good governance, Mediation and Dialogue. Community influencers, local security structures and members will be empowered with capacity and skills to manage conflict while strengthening their skills to influence change through advocating for good governance in their communities.
- Psychosocial Support (Trauma Healing): Using Its TEKAN Peace Desk manual which is the first of its kind designed for children and Adolescents who are survivors or experienced different traumatizing events will undergo a series of intensive training on understanding trauma, forgiveness, coping and healing from trauma. Adults, trauma healing workshops are not left out.
- Food Security and Livelihood: after undergoing these training, hybrid farm inputs will be given to some of the survivors as a sustainability strategy to enable them start life again.
- Humanitarian Response: with an in-depth assessment of the living condition of displaced persons, Food items will be distributed to the indignant.
- Media Engagement: engagement based on community development issues will weekly be discussed to clamor for behavioral change hence, birthing change amongst the government and the governed.
To this end the project will be implemented in Particularly, where attacks have persisted in Bokkos and Mangu LGAs of Plateau State which left over 330 dead and over 200 houses destroyed, leading to the displacement of over 29,000 persons. Zango Kataf LGAs of Kaduna State which at least over 100 people were killed with thousands displaced.
